HER Description

A tennis ground is shown on the mid 20th century maps on the junction of Welbeck Road and Church Street.

Little is known of this tennis ground, but it was likely funded and maintained by the Wesleyan Methodist Church which previously stood adjacent. I have only found one single grainy photograph of the grounds, as it appears there was a building here before it and soon after. The grounds ae seen to the north of the Wesleyan Church covered by a hedge and a small shed likely building (however this is hard to conclude). This is labelled as a ruin by the 1953 Ordnance Survey.

Today this site is part of a larger residential development.
