Alnwick Quoit Club

HER Description

The Star Hotel accomodated the Alnwick Quoit Club in the 1860s, with a quoits ground "adjoining the billiards room". This presumably stood in the large yard off Stone Well Lane, which featured a crescent bay room to the rear of the inn.

There is little other mention of Alnwick Quoit Club, but in 1869 they had 60 members with a balance of £1 7s 9d.

The hotel also appears to have hosted other clubs, such as the Alnwick Bicycle Club. The pub however later fell into disrepair and suffered from a significant fire. The site was replaced by a larger post office building which is now the Penny Black.
