HER Description

A tennis court stood on Walkergate, certainly in the 1940s and through to at least the 1970s. Given the lack of surrounding information regarding the ground, it's hard to ascertain whether this was the home ground of a club or a recreational court provided by the local authorities.

It is shown on the mid 20th century Ordnance Surveys and aerial shots from 1949. In the 40s, it is nestled between what could be allotments & gardens.

Today, the site appears to be in the process of redevelopment as of 2024.
